FOX News Channel (FNC) has named John Roberts chief White House correspondent, announced Jay Wallace, Executive Vice President of News for the network. In this new position, Roberts will relocate to Washington, DC and will be responsible for covering the White House, specifically the president’s domestic and international activities. He will begin his new role on Inauguration Day 2017.

In making the announcement, Wallace said, “John’s 30 years of experience and reputable journalism skills were showcased throughout his coverage from the campaign trail during the 2016 election season. We are proud to welcome him to the Washington bureau and look forward to him leading the network’s coverage of incoming President-elect Donald Trump.”

Roberts added, “Donald Trump’s presidency will be the predominant news story worldwide in the next four years. I am honored that FOX News has allowed me a front-row seat to history as it all unfolds.”

An award-winning journalist, Roberts, who joined FNC in 2011, previously served as FNC’s senior national correspondent based in Atlanta, GA. He has covered every presidential election since 1996 and, most recently, during the 2016 election cycle, he reported on the Republican presidential primary and eventually President-elect Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Throughout Roberts’ tenure at FNC, he has provided coverage of numerous breaking news and political events, including the 2012 and 2016 presidential debates, the 2012 and 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, midterm elections, the murder trial of real estate heir Robert Durst, the U.S. Ebola outbreak, the 2013 EF5 tornado in Moore, OK and the aftermath of Hurricane Irene in 2011.

Prior to joining FNC in 2011, Roberts was the co-anchor of CNN’s American Morning. He also served as CNN’s senior national correspondent and as anchor of This Week at War, the network’s program examining international wars. Before joining CNN in 2006, Roberts spent more than 14 years with CBS News, during which he was the chief White House correspondent and chief medical correspondent, anchor of the weekend editions of the CBS Evening News and CBS Morning News. While there, he was embedded with the U.S. Marines during the war in Iraq and anchored the CBS Evening News coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the death of Pope John Paul II.

From 1994-1995, Roberts anchored the evening news on WCBS-TV in New York, where he earned an Emmy and a New York Press Club award. Roberts began his career in Canada, where he worked as an anchor and correspondent for City TV in Toronto and also co-anchored CTV’s morning news program, Canada A.M., from 1990-1992. Earlier, he was an anchor for CBS affiliate WCIX-TV in Miami. He has received three national Emmy Awards for his coverage of the Atlanta Olympic bombing, the death of Princess Diana and the TWA crash. He also earned a National Headline Award for his coverage of the crisis along the Israeli-Lebanese border in 2006.
