Varney & Co. Places Among Top Four Business News Programs

FOX Business Network (FBN) ended the first quarter of 2022 with Kudlow (weekdays, 4PM/ET) hosted by Larry Kudlow, delivering the highest-rated business program on television, and beating CNBC for the second consecutive quarter, according to Nielsen Media Research. FBN also overtook CNBC in Business Day Hours for two weeks during the quarter, marking its first weekly win since 2020. Notching a 7% increase in total viewers (208,000) and 5% surge in the coveted advertising demo A25-54 (21,000), FBN was the only business network to show year over year growth.

For the first time since launch, FBN’s Kudlow closed out the quarter as the highest-rated business news program on television, netting 286,000 total viewers, a 52% audience increase year over year. Kudlow also earned a 29% audience increase in the A25-54 demo compared to 2021. FBN’s three-hour market open show Varney & Co. (weekdays 9 AM–12 PM/ET) hosted by Stuart Varney, scored 254,000 total viewers, placing among the top four business programs in television. Additionally, Varney & Co. beat CNBC’s Techcheck in total viewers, a first since the fourth quarter 2020. Rounding out the business day, CAVUTO: Coast to Coast (weekdays, 12-2PM/ET) anchored by managing editor of business news Neil Cavuto, Making Money with Charles Payne (weekdays, 2 PM/ET) and The Claman Countdown (weekdays, 3 PM/ET) anchored by Liz Claman each notched their most-watched quarters since 2020 in total viewers. In addition, CAVUTO: Coast to Coast, The Claman Countdown, The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (weekdays, 6 PM/ET), Making Money with Charles Payne, FOX Business Tonight (weekdays, 5-6 PM/ET), Kennedy (Monday- Thursday, 7 PM/ET), Mornings with Maria (weekdays 6-9 AM/ET) and Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street  (Fridays, 9PM/ET) all ranked in the 20 most-watched programs on business television.

Notably, almost all FBN programs posted strong quarterly viewership gains as Mornings with Maria anchored by Maria Bartiromo ushered in 12% growth with total viewers. Bartiromo’s weekly primetime program Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street as well as WSJ at Large with Gerry Baker (Fridays, 9:30 PM/ET) and Barron’s Roundtable (Saturdays, 10AM/ET) also posted growth in the 25-54 demo viewership quarter over quarter.

As the markets reacted to the war in Ukraine, FBN notably swept CNBC in Business Day viewers during the weeks of February 28th and March 21st, making it the go-to destination for breaking business news. Additionally, FBN ended the first quarter of the year delivering the top six cable news programs with affluent audiences among the 25-54 demo. CAVUTO: Coast to Coast was the number three program with a median income of $148,400. Making Money with Charles Payne, The Claman Countdown, Varney & Co. and Mornings with Maria all delivered median incomes greater than $128,800.
