FNC Beats NBC with Weekday Primetime Viewers for Week of April 28th
‘CBS Evening News’ Delivers Weekly All-Time Low While CNN Posts Worst Week of the Year
NEW YORK – May 6, 2025 – The week of April 28-May 4 marked a milestone for FOX News Channel (FNC) in delivering the top 1,013 cable news telecasts since the presidential election on November 5th according to Nielsen Media Research. FNC’s coverage of the inauguration of President Trump on January 20th continues to be the top-ranked program with 11.7 million viewers while notably, the first non-FNC program on the list, the March 24th edition of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show does not appear until 1,014th. Post-election, FNC’s cable news share continues to dominate with 66% of primetime and 65% of total day viewers, while CNN draws just 14% of cable news viewers in total day and 12% in primetime and MSNBC sees only 20% in total day and 22% in primetime. FNC has averaged 1.8 million viewers and 224,000 in the 25-54 demo across total day and 2.7 million viewers and 335,000 in the 25-54 demo during primetime since Election Day. Meanwhile, CNN is delivering under 500,000 viewers across primetime and total day and MSNBC is lagging behind to 918,000 viewers in primetime and 554,000 viewers in total day in this time period.
For the week of April 28 – May 4 in total day (6 AM-6 AM/ET), FNC posted 1.6 million viewers and 2.5 million viewers in primetime. In weekday primetime, FNC (2.9 million viewers) outpaced NBC (2.5 million viewers). CNN posted its worst week of the year with total day viewers (365,000 viewers) and with primetime A25-54 (81,000 viewers). Notably, CBS Evening News also saw its lowest-rated week ever with just 3.6 million viewers and 482,000 in the 25-54 demo.
FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour all-encompassing news service and has been the number one network in basic cable for the last eight years and the most-watched television news channel for 23 consecutive years, currently attracting nearly 70% of the cable news viewing audience according to Nielsen Media Research.
