FNC Marks 49 Consecutive Months as the Highest-Rated Network in all of Cable in Total Day Viewers

 

NEW YORK – July 28, 2020 – FOX News Channel (FNC) finished the month of July as the most-watched cable network in both total day and primetime total viewers (Persons 2+), notching 49 months in a row in the top spot across all of cable in total day. FNC also saw its highest-rated July on record, marking the seventh consecutive month this year the network has finished number one in all of cable across primetime total viewers. Delivering increases of 19 percent in total day and 32 percent in primetime year-over-year, FNC also led all of cable in upscale viewers (income of 100K+) in both weekday total day and primetime among total viewers, the key 25-54 demographic and the 18-49 demographic. Additionally, FNC ranked number one in cable news in length of tune across primetime total viewers and in the 25-54 advertiser-coveted demographic.

Marking 223 consecutive months as the top-rated cable news network in total day and primetime across total viewers, FNC continued to deliver a double-digit percent advantage over both MSNBC and CNN. In total day, FNC garnered 1.6 million viewers and 275,000 with A25-54, holding a 64 percent advantage over CNN for total viewers. In primetime, FNC delivered 3.2 million viewers and 521,000 in the 25-54 demographic and widened its advantage over CNN by 113 percent. In July, the network claimed 28 of the top 30 cable telecasts in total viewers and delivered 24 telecasts with over 4 million total viewers. FNC also delivered the top two telecasts in all of cable for the month of July with special coverage of President Trump’s speech at Mount Rushmore and averaged over 1 million viewers in the demo. Many of FNC’s evening programs, as well as the network’s entire primetime lineup, delivered their highest-rated July ever in total viewership, including Hannity, Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Ingraham Angle, The Five, FOX News @ Night, and Outnumbered Overtime with Harris Faulkner.

FNC’s primetime powerhouse lineup swept the top spots in cable news across the board and marked the second consecutive month the network’s lineup surpassed broadcast in primetime. Ranking as the number one program in all of cable news among total viewers, FNC’s Hannity (weekdays, 9PM/ET) garnered nearly 4.1 million viewers and 687,000 in the younger demo. Tucker Carlson Tonight at 8PM/ET captured the key demographic with 695,000 A25-54 viewers and 4,020,000 overall viewers. Notably, both programs marked six straight months of averaging over 4 million viewers overall and presentations of each edged out ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today Show and Meet the PressThe Ingraham Angle crushed the 10PM/ET timeslot with 3.4 million viewers and 578,000 in the 25-54 demo, outpacing the competition in both categories. Additionally, FNC’s entire primetime lineup is up double-digits year over year, with Hannity seeing increases of 23 percent with P2+ and 30 percent with A25-54, Tucker Carlson Tonight up 28 percent with P2+ and 34 percent with A25-54, and The Ingraham Angle experiencing a 32 percent increase with P2+ and 38 percent with A25-54.

Chief political anchor Bret Baier’s Special Report (weekdays, 6PM/ET) continued to deliver another strong month with 2.6 million viewers and 397,000 in the demo. At 5PM/ET, The Five remained the dominant program for the hour, earning primetime-like numbers and scoring 3.3 million viewers and 489,000 in the 25-54 demographic. The program also outpaced CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time and MSNBC’s Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell. At 7PM/ET, The Story with Martha MacCallum won its timeslot with total viewers, notching 2,174,000 viewers and 370,000 in the key demo. In comparison, MSNBC’s heavily promoted debut of The ReidOut saw double-digit declines in both total viewers (down 32 percent) and the key A25-54 demo (down 11 percent) from launch day on Monday, July 20th to Friday, July 24th of premiere week. Friday also marked the first day the show delivered under 2 million total viewers, while The Story with Martha MacCallum routinely garners over 2 million viewers each night and topped the past week in all of cable at 7PM/ET with 2,230,000 viewers. In fact, 85 percent of ReidOut viewership at 7PM/ET is age 55 or older.

Beginning the day, FOX & Friends FIRST (weekdays, 4-6AM/ET) was the number one show in its timeslot during each hour, garnering 595,000 viewers. FNC’s signature morning show FOX & Friends (6-9AM/ET) crushed all of cable news in total viewership, delivering 1.5 million viewers and 258,000 in A25-54. FNC’s morning program topped all of CNN’s programming with the exception of primetime’s Anderson Cooper 360 and Cuomo Prime Time. The network’s three-hour morning news offering, America’s Newsroom (9AM-12PM/ET) garnered 1.7 million viewers and 260,000 with A25-54.

FNC’s afternoon ensemble program, Outnumbered (12PM/ET), averaged 1.7 million viewers and 260,000 in the demo, and at 1PM/ET, Outnumbered Overtime anchored by Harris Faulkner, averaged 1.7 million viewers and 251,000 in the 25-54 demo, beating ABC in total viewers a record 41 weeks since 3Q’19. At 2PM/ET, The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino delivered 1.6 million viewers and 246,000 with A25-54, while FNC’s latest addition to the news lineup, Bill Hemmer Reports, averaged 1.6 million viewers and 242,000 in the demo during the 3PM/ET hour. Your World with Neil Cavuto brought in 1.7 million viewers and 271,000 with A25-54, outpacing MSNBC’s Deadline: White House in the key demographic. In the evening, FOX News @ Night with Shannon Bream saw an audience of nearly 2 million viewers and 402,000 in the key demo, outpacing MSNBC’s 11th Hour with Brian Williams in both categories for the month as well as capturing a victory in the A25-54 demo for the eighth consecutive month.

On the weekends, FOX & Friends Weekend (weekends, 6-10AM/ET) dominated CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers, with 1.4 million viewers and 226,000 in the 25-54 demo. Saturday’s primetime lineup of Watters’ World (Saturdays, 8PM/ET; 2.3 million total viewers and 282,000 in the demo), Justice with Judge Jeanine (Saturdays, 9PM/ET; 2.4 million total viewers and 269,000 in the demo) and The Greg Gutfeld Show (Saturdays, 10PM/ET) surpassed CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers. The Greg Gutfeld Show was also the second most-watched late night program in all of television, behind CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in total viewership with 2.2 million total viewers. The show was also was the number one cable news program during the weekends with the younger demographic, edging out CNN’s United Shades of America.

Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo (Sundays, 10AM/ET) took the number one spot in its timeslot, averaging 1.7 million viewers and 250,000 in the demo, while MediaBuzz hosted by Howard Kurtz (Sundays, 11AM/ET) delivered 1.5 million viewers and 227,000 in the 25-54 category, propelling another win over CNN’s Reliable Sources in viewers (1.1 million P2+). Additionally, CAVUTO Live (1.4 million P2+; 229,000 A25-54), FOX Report with Jon Scott (1.4 million P2+; 221,000 A25-54) and The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton (1.7 million P2+; 227,000 A25-54), led the way in their respective timeslots, while Life, Liberty and Levin at 8PM/ET also notched 1.8 million viewers and 221,000 with A25-54.
